ACRRM Rural Generalist training program accredited for specialist registration
ACRRM's purpose-built Rural Generalist training program has been accredited by the Medical Board of Australia, recognising the College's Fellowship qualification for the purposes of specialist registration.
The accreditation confirms ACRRM's Fellowship meets the national standards required for specialist recognition and reinforces the College's position as Australia's only specialist medical college dedicated entirely to Rural Generalist medicine.
ACRRM President Dr Rod Martin says the decision is recognition of more than three decades of work designing training specifically for rural, remote and First Nations communities.
"This accreditation recognises what Rural Generalists and rural communities have known for years - ACRRM's training is built for rural, remote and First Nations medicine."
Dr Claire Arundell announced as ACRRM's next President
ACRRM announces Dr Claire Arundell as its next President, ushering in a new chapter for the College.
A Rural Generalist with Advanced Specialised Training in Anaesthetics, educator, instructor, past Chair of College Council and respected College leader, Dr Arundell has spent her career caring for communities across almost every Australian state and territory. She currently lives on Norfolk Island.
Dr Arundell will formally commence as President following ACRRM's Annual General Meeting in October, succeeding outgoing President Dr Rod Martin.
Dr Martin congratulated Dr Arundell and welcomed the next generation of leadership.
"Claire brings energy, experience and an unwavering commitment to rural practice," Dr Martin says.
"She has dedicated countless hours to strengthening the profession, while never losing sight of what matters most – our members and the communities they serve."
Following the nomination period, elections for the following College roles will open tomorrow:
QLD Representative on College Council
WA Representative on College Council
TAS Representative on College Council
Registar Director on the College Board
Eligible members will receive further information on candidates and how to vote via email.
Voting opens at 8:00am AEST 14 August and closes at 5:00pm AEST Friday 11 September.

This week, the Victorian Training Team delivered its Primary Care Orientation Workshop for registrars new to general practice. The program covered key topics including Closing the Gap, presented by JCTS Cultural Educators Aunty Marlene Drysdale and Robbie Ahmat, MBS orientation, S8 prescribing and SafeScript requirements, and communication roleplay scenarios with professional actors.
