From program to practice: integrating the Fellowship Education Program
Supervisors' Compass podcast episode 11
How can supervisors help registrars connect the Fellowship Education Program with everyday clinical practice?
Episode 11 of Supervisors’ Compass has been released, with Dr James Best, Professor Richard Hays and Dr Matt Ruhl discussing the Fellowship Education Program and its role in supporting registrars on their pathway to Fellowship and independent Rural Generalist practice.
They discuss how the program aligns with the ACRRM curriculum, assessments and workplace-based learning, and why it should be viewed as a practical framework that supports real-world Rural Generalist practice—not something separate from it.
Sponsored: Misinformation about testosterone use in menopause is widespread
Misinformation about testosterone use in menopause is widespread.
According to social media, there are many suggested uses for testosterone, but there is only one approved indication for use. Not every woman requires pharmacological therapy.
Our new evidence-based clinical guide supports the safe and effective management of menopausal vasomotor and urogenital symptoms using hormonal and non-hormonal therapies.
Developed in conjunction with Jean Hailes, endorsed by the Australasian Menopause Society. Funded by the Australian Government.
Update to Workforce Incentive Program (WIP) Practice payments
The Workforce Incentive Program (WIP) – Practice Stream provides financial incentives to help eligible general practices with the cost of engaging nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners and health workers as part of a multidisciplinary team. The third indexed payments to eligible practices will be applied from 1 July 2026, with increased payments made to practices in the August 2026 quarterly payment run.
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care has revised the Australian Open Disclosure Framework, which now applies across all healthcare settings.
Originally released in 2014, the updated Framework reflects contemporary clinical practice and strengthens its focus on person-centred care. Learn more about the Framework.
ACRRM Online Learning
This month, ACRRM's Director of Education, Dr Trevor Burchall, has hand-picked three timely online courses to help you tackle some of the most common, and increasingly important, presentations in rural and remote practice.
One of our newest and most in-demand online courses, this program supports Rural Generalists to confidently assess, diagnose, and co-manage ADHD across the lifespan.
Using a case-based approach, it brings together current evidence and real-world rural practice, covering assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing shared care.
This new course builds the essential skills needed to provide structured infant and maternal wellbeing checks throughout the first year of life. You’ll work through age-specific assessments including physical examination, growth and developmental surveillance, feeding and sleep review, and maternal mental health screening.
This practical, case-based course introduces the key aspects of veteran healthcare, including the physical, psychological, and social impacts of military service and transition to civilian life.
Webinar: PrEP in Practice - The Role of primary care in HIV prevention
Primary care clinicians play a vital role in Australia's efforts to eliminate HIV transmission. This practical webinar, delivered in partnership with ASHM and co-facilitated by FACRRM Dr Matt Ruhl, will equip GPs and Rural Generalists with the knowledge and confidence to incorporate HIV prevention into everyday practice through the appropriate use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
Participants will explore the current epidemiology of HIV in Australia, review the range of HIV prevention strategies, and gain a practical understanding of available PrEP dosing options.
ACRRM had a fantastic two days at the RDAQ Conference in Cairns, connecting with members, delegates and rural healthcare professionals from across Queensland. It was a great opportunity to discuss Rural Generalism, training pathways, membership and the future of rural healthcare. Thank you to everyone who visited the ACRRM stand—we're proud to support rural doctors at every stage of their journey.

Key areas covered include streamlining access to PRODA for authority prescriptions, presenting My Health Record information in a more accessible way, supporting MBS item selection, assisting with reception and practice workflows, and helping clinicians consider relevant clinical options and guidelines.
