ACRRM welcomes endorsement of National Rural Health Commissioner
ACRRM has welcomed the independent review of the National Rural Health Commissioner's legislative framework, describing it as a strong endorsement of the Commissioner's role and continued investment in rural health leadership.
ACRRM President Dr Rod Martin says the review reinforces the importance of an independent, evidence-based voice advocating for the health needs of rural, remote, and First Nations communities.
"The review confirms what those of us working on the ground already know – rural and remote Australia benefits from having an independent National Rural Health Commissioner providing expert advice to government on the unique challenges facing our communities," Dr Martin says.
The program is out. The social events have been announced. Adelaide is ready to welcome rural doctors from across Australia.
With just one week remaining until Early Bird registration closes on 30 June, there's only one thing left to do: secure your place at RMA26.
Whether you're looking for clinical updates, professional inspiration, or simply the chance to reconnect with your rural medicine network, RMA26 has something for you.
Beyond primary care: Building a portfolio career as a Rural Generalist
The perception that primary care is repetitive or less demanding than hospital medicine is a myth that can deter junior doctors. Rural generalism is one of the most intellectually demanding and rewarding careers in medicine, and when you build it as a portfolio, it becomes a career with longevity, autonomy, financial resilience, and the kind of variety that keeps you engaged across decades.

Policy update: NSW and QLD State Budgets
The Queensland State and New South Wales budgets were released on the 23rd of June.
The Queensland Budget included benefits such as health infrastructure, increased state surgery capacity, and an increase in the mileage subsidy rate from 34 cents per kilometre to 45 cents per kilometre. Queensland members can explore the budget here.
The NSW State Budget saw a focus in health workforce, aiming to increase hospital capacity by 9,000 workers to meet hospital demand but also saw $11.2 billion in capital investment over four years to deliver an additional 2,500 additional hospital beds. NSW members can explore the budget here.

Support your patients with Medicare Mental Health Check In
Medicare Mental Health Check In is a new digital service that offers free evidence-based and confidential support to help people manage mild mental health challenges, like stress, anxiety, and low mood.
As a form of early intervention support, it helps people build practical skills, confidence, and improve their mental health through low-intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (LiCBT), while reducing pressure on higher-intensity services.
