ACRRM welcomes $1.36 billion rural health workforce investment
ACRRM welcomes the opening of applications for the Australian Government’s $1.36 billion Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.
The funding, provided over six financial years, will support universities to encourage and prepare health students to pursue careers in regional, rural, remote and First Nations communities.
The reformed program shifts the focus from student placement numbers to long-term workforce outcomes, including graduate tracking and rural recruitment and retention.
ACRRM President Dr Rod Martin says the approach recognises that rural training must ultimately translate into more health professionals choosing to live and work in rural and remote Australia.

Resources to support childhood immunisation conversations
As part of the ‘One more way you keep them safe’ childhood immunisation campaign, a range of resources is available to support conversations about routine childhood immunisation.
You can include these resources in your practice communications to help parents and carers access clear, trusted information about childhood immunisation and the importance of keeping all vaccinations up to date.
Fee transparency plays a critical role in supporting informed patient choice, improving trust in the healthcare system, and promoting equitable access to care.

Caring@home: New resources supporting at-home palliative care
New, free resources are now available for Support at Home providers to upskill care workers supporting people receiving end-of-life care at home.
The tailored resources aim to build workforce capacity and confidence in supporting high-quality, home-based care, including:
symptom management tip sheets to help care workers recognise common symptoms and provide appropriate non-pharmacological support, and
practical care guides and videos including how to care for the eyes, nose and mouth, and how to wash and move a person, and how to change a pad.

The Joint Consultative Committee on Rural Generalist Medicine (JCCRG) met in Canberra with representation from ACRRM, RACGP, and the National Rural Health Commissioner, reinforcing a shared commitment to Rural Generalist Medicine. The workshop brought together the Department, RACGP, and ACRRM to discuss the proposed GP Training Allocation and Capacity Data Tool, along with allocation processes to support future workforce planning.
